After a succession of sunny days, we had rain this morning, but it brightened up enough this afternoon to tempt me out for a walk. Signs of spring are all around, and the birds are singing madly, providing me with a constant soundtrack. Most of the catkins are past their best now, but the pussywillow is laden with yellow pollen. I also saw some blackthorn blossom, which bodes well for sloes later in the year.
The woods are looking lovely at the moment, with last year’s leaves still thickly strewn on the ground, and the trunks of beech and ash very pale against the deep copper colour.
Back home for a slice of freshly-baked Simnel cake, via these beautiful primroses, which grow on a sunny bank in the garden.
It’s not been a particularly hard winter this year, but it’s still good to see the days getting longer…
